Episode 85: The 12 Dogs of Christmas

Happy Holidays! Its the last episode for the Christmas season and the last episode of the year! In our 2019 wrap up we talk decade questions, what would our dogs have not guessed life would be like 10 years ago and what have we learned in the last 10 years of pet parentship? The answers might surprise you.

Then we get down to business to talk the 2005 period movie The 12 Dogs of Christmas, a sweet movie that didn’t have us cringing – too much. The main question on our minds though, why did this town hate dogs so much?

See you in 2020!

Episode 84: A Christmas Shepherd

Courtney from The Cult of Domesticity Podcast is back to talk all things German Shepherd, mainly bestest boi Ace who stars as Buddy in The Christmas Shepherd. Its a Hallmark movie that, given the standard, is quite good. Even if it leaves us with many unanswered questions, such as: why didn’t Ace get top billing, when he’s clearly carrying this movie on his own.

Plus, we take a dive into Ace’s filmography and debate if his other movies are worth watching, then get insanely distracted by all the dogs we follow on instagram. Lots of great recommendations you wont want to miss.

Episode 83: The Dog Who Saved Christmas Vacation

Its the second Holiday ep of the season and we’re renewing our tradition of The Dog Who Saved series with another Zeus Christmas. Does this sequel compare to the first? Did Vacation really need saving? Why are they still stuck on weird doggy romances? Are George and Randy more toxic than the actual criminals? So many questions, with not a lot of answers. But hey, at least the dogs are cute.

Episode 82: A Christmas Wedding Tail

Its the first of the very special doggy Christmas episodes! This week Kate is joined by Em from Shelf Aware and 12 Months of Christmas Podcasts to discuss Em’s specialty, Christmas Rom-Coms. The ladies are tackling the 2011 Hallmark movie A Christmas Wedding Tail. A film in which so many things make very little sense and is littered with so many stereotypes to make you cringe, but hey, at least the dogs are cute!

Cats vs Dogs – tired old trope or timeless classic? Amanda from Amanda’s Picture Show A Go-Go is here to discuss the pros and cons of this in the 2001 movie, Cats And Dogs.

We talk all the big name actors starring in this sometimes bizarre film and Amanda gets a little side-tracked by Jeff Goldblum. Kate shows off her knowledge of unique breeds used in the movie, without needing a cheat-sheet. Plus, the ladies wonder, why do the mice in this movie want to overthrow Australia?

Episode 72: Snow Dogs

Erica from Lez Represent joins me this week to talk about her menagerie and the 2002 movie Snow Dogs.

Erica has lots of pets on her farmlet, from cats, to horses and goats and one little … Alien Prince? Listen as she tells me how her chihuahua Kovu rules over everyone and might actually be from another planet.

When we get to dissecting the movie, we find there lots of things we didn’t understand. Like the strange jokes/commentary on race, and why, for a dog movie, there is a lack of dog action.

Episode 66: Robo Rex

What do you get with an (attempted) American version of Doctor Who’s K9 crossed with some weird Back to the Future stuff? Not a very good dog movie, thats what.

This week Kate and Stephanie attempt to deconstruct The Adventures of Robo Rex, a movie about a robotic dog from the future, but ultimately get stuck on the lack of screen time the real dog gets.

Plus they argue about the important issues, like do collar and caller really sound the same?

Episode 65: See Spot Run

We’re back! And we have just the perfect movie for our return. 2001s See Spot Run seems like a fun plot on paper, but it left Kate and Val with more questions than answers. Why was a bullmastiff an FBI K9 dog? And why did it want to go live with humans it had known for a weekend? Why would a perfectly sane parent leave their child in the care of the imbecilic postman, Gordon? Do American pet stores sell things unrelated to pets and why where there so many poop jokes? You’ll be asking yourself too.
